Dear Prospective Jewish Bruin...

Strolling down Bruinwalk, we pass ten people we know – eight of whom we’ve met through Jewish experiences. They are our friends, our support system, our Jewish Bruin family who make a large, world-renowned university like UCLA feel like a small, tight-knit community. For us, the presence of a vibrant Jewish community on campus has been essential in our college experience, shaping who we are culturally, religiously, and personally.

The key to this community is its understanding that each student will have their individual and unique Jewish Bruin journey. Hillel at UCLA acts as an umbrella for a multitude of student-run organizations, each serving to empower some niche passion. Through Hillel, students:

  • Participate in weekly Shabbat dinners and services, a pluralistic environment that supports liberal and traditional Jewish expression and a festive meal

  • Use their meal plan to “swipe in” for delicious Kosher food at Our Kosher Table

  • Experience Israeli culture on campus through Bruins for Israel (BFI) and first-hand through travel with Birthright, Onward Israel, and more

  • Engage with active student communities such as the Persian Community at Hillel (PCH), Transfer Undergraduate Students of Hillel (TUSH), Jewish fraternity (AEPi), Jewish sorority (Sigma AEPi), and more

  • Participate in local and national Israel advocacy through Bruin-Israel Public Affairs Committee (BIPAC)

  • Dive into Jewish learning through various tracks of our Jewish Learning Fellowship

  • Form personal relationships with Holocaust survivors through Bearing Witness

  • Participate in outdoors alternative Shabbat experiences through Chai on Life

  • Sing a cappella with Jewish peers through Jewkbox

  • Connect with Israeli consulting and investing industries through Tamid at UCLA

  • Have the chance to become leaders within these student groups and participate in leadership development programs

This is the tip of the iceberg for what Hillel at UCLA can offer you, as student passion and initiative is ever-growing. We are excited to welcome you to our family, and we hope that you will lean into our thriving Jewish community. Until then, please feel free to reach out!

Go Bruins!
